- bioavailability
- Proportion of an active ingredient that reaches the bloodstream. Sublingual: 20-35%, oral: 6-15%.
- broad spectrum
- Like full spectrum but with THC completely removed. Offers entourage effect without THC content.
C
- cannabinoids
- Chemical compounds that bind to cannabinoid receptors. Over 100 different cannabinoids are known in the hemp plant.
- CBD
- Cannabidiol: non-psychoactive cannabinoid from hemp with potentially anti-inflammatory and calming properties.
- CBG
- Cannabigerol: precursor cannabinoid from which THC and CBD are formed. Known as the 'mother of all cannabinoids'.
- CBN
- Cannabinol: formed through oxidation of THC. Associated with sedative and sleep-promoting properties.
D
- decarboxylation
- Chemical process that removes a carboxyl group through heat. Converts inactive THCA/CBDA into active THC/CBD.
E
- endocannabinoid system
- The body's signalling system with CB1 and CB2 receptors that regulates sleep, pain, mood and immune function.
- entourage effect
- Synergy between cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids that work more powerfully together than individually.

- full spectrum
- Extract containing all natural cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids from hemp, including traces of THC (below 0.2%).

- hybrid
- Cannabis variety resulting from crossing Indica and Sativa. Combines characteristics of both subspecies.
I
- Indica
- Cannabis subspecies with body-focused, relaxing effects. Compact growth, broad leaves, shorter flowering phase.
- isolate
- Pure, isolated cannabinoid (e.g. CBD) without other plant compounds. Purity typically 99%+.

- Novel Food
- Novel foods not significantly consumed before 1997. CBD products require EU authorisation, which has not yet been granted.
S
- Sativa
- Cannabis subspecies with cerebral, stimulating effects. Tall growth, narrow leaves, longer flowering phase.
- sublingual
- Administration under the tongue. CBD oil is held 60-90 seconds under the tongue for absorption through the oral mucosa.
T
- terpenes
- Aromatic compounds in cannabis responsible for flavour and aroma. Contribute to the effect (e.g. myrcene, limonene, linalool).
- THC
- Tetrahydrocannabinol: main psychoactive cannabinoid in cannabis, responsible for the intoxicating effect.
